The Maxine Ryan Burke Kindermusik Scholarship honors the life and legacy of a woman who lived life with passion, courage and inspiration. She believed in the potential of children and in changing the world one child at a time. This is an ideal that Kindermusik, an international world leader in music and movement classes has embraced for the past 40 years- a program Maxine’s grandchildren cherished and participated in.
A lifelong avid sportswoman, Maxine competed in curling, basketball, speed skating, and was a Province champion in discus throwing. She was a competitive skier well into her 70’s, skiing all over the world and finished 2nd in the country for her age in a US NASTAR ski competition. While in Florida, she enjoyed golf and gardening and daily treks to the dog park. She was a child advocate volunteer for Guardian ad Litem in Indian River County.
Maxine’s daughter Linda Roberts has fond memories of her mother and the pet canaries they sang with together as a child in Mexico. She instilled a love of music in her children and grandchildren. Her family wants her legacy remembered by paying it forward- a way to continue inspiring and educating children and families through the bonding power of music.
The Maxine Ryan Burke Kindermusik Scholarship will initially be launched by memorial donations from supporters and friends of the Burke and Roberts families and our local community program: Kindermusik with Ocean Strings Studio. The goal of this ongoing scholarship program is to commemorate the legacy of this extraordinary woman by rendering qualified financial assistance to children ages newborn to five years old and their families who will benefit from the early childhood education that Kindermusik provides.
Kindermusik classes have been proven to increase literacy scores for children by 32% according to a recent independent PALS study. It is one of the few childhood programs that effectively boosts 8 learning domains in our weekly 45 minute classes and daily online materials- where parents are encouraged to bond and become their child’s first music teacher.
Kindermusik is an environment where children are celebrated for being themselves, where they can feel safe and express their musical creativity, where they can grow socially and emotionally and where they can bloom and inspire others as beautifully as the garden that Maxine Ryan Burke peacefully passed away in.
Thank you in advance for your generous support of this invaluable resource!!! We hope Maxine’s inspiring legacy will move you to make a donation to the Kindermusik scholarship in her name... changing our community.. changing the world- one child at a time.
